2020 - A difficult year
It would be an understatement to say that the year 2020 has been difficult. However, as entrepreneurs, we are wired to see opportunities in problems. The pandemic and the difficult economic conditions provided a nice opportunity to launch our ideas. This is where being nimble and lean, helped us be so flexible and proactive.
Launch of Moris.Store
In the first 2 weeks of the confinement in Mauritius, Codevigor, along with Wakanda and Electrical.mu launched Moris.store, an e-commerce DIY platform, which allows companies and businesses to open up their ecommerce portals in a few minutes. The aim of launching the project at that particular point in time was to help people in Mauritius have access to groceries and basic necessities in this difficult time. As a result, we waived all fees during the confinement period and offered the platform for free to everyone who needed to buy and sell online. In the first 2 weeks of the launch, the platform managed to process more than 20,000 orders and accommodate up to 200,000 visits per day on our various online shops including Hassen Taher, being our most popular shop. Although we wanted to do and help more, our mission to help Mauritius in this time of need was accomplished.
Moris.store is a long term project which was launched in 2014 but which was dormant for the last few years because of the limited number of payment options available in Mauritius along with the relatively low traffic for online commerce. With the introduction of the confinement, this was a perfect time to relaunch the project. With the help of XTM and Horizon Africa, we also launched a unique blockchain-based loyalty programme called Hustlemania, with online shows on Facebook live. This was an instant hit with our audience with a nice engagement from all the participants.
Partnerships
This endeavour involved the participation of Codevigor, Wakanda, Electrical.mu and XTM as close partners. This adventure showed that by having the right partners with the same mindset, complementing each other's expertise, we could launch a working business model in a few days.
